Line 6 HELIX Preset Anastasio22
Anastasio22! Line 6 HELIX preset for Trey Anastasio’s 2022 guitar tone! • Release Date 12/20/2022
Anastasio22 is based around a Trainwreck Express amp with a slightly driven clean sound. The breakup of the amp becomes more noticeable when picking hard, especially on chords.
Trey sounded to have a slightly crunchier tone in 2022, with a less compressed overdrive, which I imagine came from the natural amp breakup as well as using a Klon with very little drive to boost the amp into more saturation. I used a King of Tone model to emulate the Klon / Tubescreamer Less, as I felt it sounded more open and natural. I also added a DRIVE switch changing the parameters of the amp to give the option of having even more natural amp breakup, which I absolutely love!
The effects include the usual suspects with two overdrives, one LESS and one MORE, and a Ross style compressor, that I kept subtle but adds a distinct layer of presence in the tone. Whammy, Wah, Shin-ei Vibe, Supa Puss LESS, Supa Puss MORE and the iconic CAE Super Tremolo chop effect are all in there.
New for Trey in 2021 and 2022 was the addition of the Line 6 M5’s and I’ve included a synth like sound that I believe replicates what he sometimes used. It’s a unique and almost overpowering sound that took me some time to dial in so it wasn’t too obnoxious in the live setting. I also included an extra reverb, emulating an Eventide Space Reverb, which adds a nice touch at times.
Last in the chain is the looper, designed to emulate how Trey uses his Boomerang with a nice playback volume and decay setting, for a very musical effect.
There’s 8 snapshots which are mostly different settings for the Whammy pedal, but includes a Wah and MuTron model which are nice to have at times.
I spent a lot of time dialing these amps and effects in, trying them out at several live shows with my bands, Touch of Trey (phish & dead), A Live One (phish) & HeartByrne (talking heads). Testing them at home with several different cabinets, monitors and headphones, and then really dialing them in when pushing them at very loud live venue levels. I believe they’re balanced very well and sound really good in the mix!
